Abortion to Abolition, 2022
Cover and illustrations
By Martha Paynter

The history of abortion decriminalization and critical advocacy efforts to improve access in Canada deserve to be better known. Ordinary people persevered to make Canada the most progressive country in the world with respect to abortion care. But while abortion access is poorly understood, so too are the persistent threats to reproductive justice in this country: sexual violence, gun violence, homophobia and transphobia, criminalization of sex work, reproductive oppression of Indigenous women and girls, privatization of fertility health services, and the racism and colonialism of policing and the prison system. This beautifully illustrated book tells the empowering true stories behind the struggles for reproductive justice in Canada, celebrating past wins and revealing how prison abolitionism is key to the path forward.

Secret Life of A Mother

Secret Life of A Mother, 2022

By Hannah Moscovitch, with Maev Beaty and Ann-Marie Kerr

The raw and untold secrets of pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth, and mothering are revealed in this true story of motherhood for the twenty-first century.

A playwright writes an exposé of modern motherhood full of her own darkly funny confessions and taboo-breaking truths. One of her real-life friends, an actress, performs the piece, and through it her own experiences of motherhood start to surface. These mothers are not the butts of jokes, the villains, or the perfect angels of a household.

This empowered and relatable play was written collaboratively between award-winning theatre artists Hannah Moscovitch, Maev Beaty, and Ann-Marie Kerr, with co-creator Marinda de Beer. Uplifting and full of love, Secret Life of a Mother is a generous and powerful act of truth-telling for anyone who has thought about, been, loved, known—or come from—a mother.

NSPIRG, along with partners Wellness Within and the Tegan and Sara Foundation, have teamed up with community members to build a toolkit of resources for 2SLGBTQ+ birthing folks and those who support them!

This will be used as a training tool for the Wellness Within Doula Training Program, and is available at the link below.

We are working on fully accessible versions of the Toolkit, and links will be added as available. The toolkit will be mainly hosted on the Wellness Within website, under the Queer Doula Program tab. You will be able to find single resources from the toolkit formatted for colour or greyscale printing available there, along with the full copies linked below!
